Most often this occurs in occupations that include delivering care to individuals who may be disclosing trauma experiences\, or witnessing other people’s experience of trauma in other ways. Though often acquired through a person’s profession\, vicarious trauma can affect people far beyond job performance. Vicarious trauma can have impacts on social\, psychological and physiological responses as well. This presentation will review some of the research available in the field of vicarious trauma\, including some risk factors and protective factors for caregivers. We will review interventions for individuals and organizations that have shown some effectiveness in reducing vicarious trauma. We will discuss how to identify likely triggers of vicarious trauma and recognize signs and symptoms of vicarious trauma in ourselves. We will discuss and practice developing a personal wellness plans for managing symptoms\, to keep our helping healthy. \nObjectives \n\nLearn what vicarious trauma is\, other similar terminology used in the research field\, and signs and symptoms of vicarious trauma.\nIdentify ways to become informed and aware of vicarious trauma\, both on an individual and organizational level.\nLearn about research outcomes related to vicarious trauma and interventions to reduce vicarious trauma.\nConsider ways to develop a personal wellness plan\, to self-identify potential triggers for vicarious trauma and how to reduced risk.\n\nFacilitator: \nErin Edwards is a Board Certified Behavior Analysts\, with a Masters in Psychology. Erin currently works for Penn State College of Medicine/ Hershey Medical Center with the Division of Autism within the Department of Psychiatry.  Erin and PennCares Support Services have worked together for many years developing trainings encompassing older adults and issues surrounding behavioral health. Erin has worked with children with autism and other mental health diagnoses across a variety of services\, including specialized schooling\, home and community BHRS services\, intensive family based mental health services and currently outpatient services. Erin has also worked with adults\, in community\, home and work settings\, with autism and co-morbid mood and mental health diagnoses\, as well as hoarding behaviors and anxiety\, depression and matters surrounding suicide.  In supervisory positions\, Erin has provided a large variety of trainings to direct care staff with a focus on practical interventions strategies and reducing frustration or fatigue in caregiver positions. \n*CEUs  \nSocial Work: “NASW-PA Chapter is a co-sponsor of this workshop.  3.0 CEUs will be awarded for completion of this course. We will also touch on the impact that social determinants of health play as it relates to the aging and disabled.  A PPT and handouts will be shared as well. \nObjectives \n\nGain better understanding of statistics as it relates to the Aging and Disability Populations\nLearn key tips to always being inclusive of these identified populations\nKey considerations when seeking supports and services for Aging and Disability Individuals\nLearn important ways to be pro-active when considering generational needs of others\n\nFacilitator: \nLisa Kennedy is a single parent of 4 adult children and grandmother of 4 as well.  She is a former Foster Parent and an Adoptive Parent.  She’s also currently an Elected School Board Director for The School District of the City of York and a Family Peer Support Specialist. Lisa has spent more than 20 plus years supporting\,  educating\,  and advocating for children and families.  She enjoys growing and learning through the many opportunities afforded her while engaged in workshops/trainings with others.
