DESCRIPTION:presents:\n\n\n  \nThis program is made possible through a generous grant from the Tioga Downs Regional Community Foundation and hosted by  \nthe Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna/Tioga Area Agency on Aging. \n \n  \nWhat Does Dementia Actually Feel Like?\nDementia Live® is an immersive simulation experience designed to give participants a deeper understanding of the sensory\, cognitive\, and emotional challenges individuals living with dementia may face each day. Through the use of specialized equipment and guided activities\, participants briefly step into the world of someone experiencing dementia. \nDuring the simulation\, participants will attempt to complete a series of simple tasks while navigating sensory and cognitive changes that replicate common symptoms associated with dementia. The experience is followed by a facilitated discussion that helps participants process what they experienced and explore practical strategies for communication\, empathy\, and support. \nThis powerful training helps caregivers\, professionals\, family\, and community members better understand how dementia impacts daily life and how supportive approaches can make a meaningful difference. \n\nEvent Details\nDate: Tuesday\, May 5\, 2026 \nLocation: Bradford County Public Safety Center | 29 VanKuren Dr. Towanda\, PA 18848 \nCost: Free to Attend \nParticipants will register for a 30-minute time slot during the event. Each session includes the simulation experience and a brief facilitated discussion. \nPlease plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time to allow for check-in and orientation. \nSpace is limited due to the hands-on nature of the experience. \n\nWhy Attend?\nParticipants will: \n\n\nGain a deeper understanding of what dementia may feel like \n\n\nBuild empathy and improve communication with individuals living with dementia \n\n\nLearn practical strategies for caregiving and support \n\n\nLeave with tools to create more dementia-friendly environments \n\n\n\nImportant Participation Information\nFor safety reasons\, this simulation may not be appropriate for individuals who: \n\nAre pregnant\nHave a history of seizures or severe vertigo\nHave significant mobility limitations that would make participation unsafe\nExperience conditions that could be worsened by sensory simulation activities\n\nParticipants will be asked to sign a waiver prior to participating in the simulation. \nIf you have questions about whether this experience is appropriate for you\, please contact us before registering. \n\nAttendance & Cancellation Policy\nThis training is offered at no cost; however\, PennCares incurs actual costs associated with materials\, space\, and facilitation. \nBy registering for this training\, participants agree to attend or to provide notice of cancellation at least 24 hours in advance. Registrants who fail to attend and do not provide timely cancellation notice will be assessed a $25 no-show fee. This training emphasizes adaptability\, emotional intelligence\, and the importance of maintaining a positive and professional demeanor in diverse workplace settings. \n\nObjectives \n\nExplore the psychological and environmental factors that influence behavior\nDefine Professionalism\nPractice effective communication techniques\, including active listening\, assertive expression\, and appropriate use of formal and informal language.\nLearn strategies to de-escalate and resolve workplace conflicts constructively.\nMaster tools and methods to prioritize tasks\, reduce procrastination\, and enhance productivity.\nIdentify strategies to manage stress\, prevent burnout\, and maintain a healthy work-life balance.\nApply the “Seven Cs of Customer Service” to ensure client satisfaction and foster positive relationships.\nLearn to navigate challenging situations and shift workplace expectations with flexibility and composure.\n\n\nFacilitator\nLauren M. She holds a Master of Public Health and is a Certified Prevention Specialist through the Pennsylvania Certification Board. Lauren brings experience in prevention programming\, leadership development\, and curriculum design\, offering a practical\, real-world perspective grounded in public health and professional practice. \n\nContinuing Education Units (CEUs)\n\nSocial Work: 3.0 CEUs (Pending Approval) – $5 per Social Worker requesting CEUs\nNursing: 3.0 Contact Hours Available – $50 per RN requesting CEUs\n\nContinuing Education Fees are determined by the respective accrediting bodies and are not set by PennCares. \nNursing CEU Disclosure: \nPenn State Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing is approved with distinction as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by Pennsylvania State Nurses Association Approver Unit\, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. With over a decade of experience\, Laurie combines her expertise in injury prevention\, workplace wellness\, and life enrichment to design and implement impactful programs across various industries. Laurie holds a Master of Science in Exercise Science and Health Promotion from California University of Pennsylvania\, graduating summa cum laude\, and a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Management from Lock Haven University\, where she earned multiple accolades for academic and leadership excellence.
